Course Description: Classical texts in Islamic Spirituality by Imam Ghazali (ra) and Imam Rabbani Mujaddid Alfithani (ra)

Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Ghazali is widely accepted as one of the most prominent scholars of Islam. His magnum opus, the Ihya al-Uloom ul-Deen, or Revival of Islamic Sciences, is distinctive in its treatment of the multifarious Islamic sciences of Jurisprudence, Theology and Sufism. Imam al-Ghazali went on to write a summary of the Ihya in the form of Al-Arba’een fi Usool id-Deen. This course will go through the text of Al-arba’een, reflecting upon its meanings and inspiring students to draw closer to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala through the lessons contained therein. Through this course, students will learn to appreciate the importance of inner reform and spirituality, and the role they play in bringing a person to the Straight Path.

Imam Rabbani Mujaddid Alfithani (ra) is widely believed to be the Reviver of the second millennium of Muslim history. A direct descendant of Hazrat Umar Ibne Khattab (ra), Imam Rabanni was instrumental in restoring orthodoxy to Islamic theology in Mughal India. His efforts were especially significant for ending the fitna of Deen-e-Ilahi during the reign of Akbar. Imam Rabanni’s (ra) influence spread not only in India but also in Central Asia and as far as the Ottomon Empire. His teachings on spirituality and orthodoxy continue to guide and inspire those travelling on the path  seeking Allah (swt).
